Early Childhood Education Intern (Paid)
PURPOSE: The Early Childhood Education Intern at the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science (Frost Science) will work alongside the museum’s education team to assist and support the delivery of early childhood science programming at the museum. Science topics may include marine biology, ecology, health, neuroscience, engineering, astronomy, evolution, physics, chemistry, and biology. Interns will aid with the delivery of specific grant programs and support development and delivery of new early childhood education programs. Applicants should have a strong background or interest in early childhood education. The ideal candidate is pursuing a degree in early childhood education, or a related field.
This internship position participants will gain exceptional experience developing and delivering informal science programs with an early childhood education focus, including science-themed camps, shows, hands-on activities, workshops, demos, digital resources and special events. Duration of the position is based on hours worked per week and available funding.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Become familiar with the museum’s Early Childhood Hands-on Science (ECHOS) curriculum.
- Assist with the delivery of a one-day professional development training on the ECHOS curriculum.
- Support the delivery of tasks associated with an ECHOS grant project.
- Assist with the delivery of select educational programs developed for special events or event series as needed.
- Participate in brainstorming sessions with the education team.
- Complete quick turnaround requests to support efforts of early childhood program team.
- Perform other assigned tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Interest in Frost Science’s mission.
- Desire to work with early learners in an informal education setting.
- Strong background or interest in early childhood education.
- Interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Reliable and punctual, with good attendance.
- Positive attitude and the ability to work well with different personalities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) or (English/Creole) a plus.
- Must be 18 years or older.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
- Work is conducted in both an office setting, on the museum floor and offsite locations.
- Lifting of program supplies and materials possible.
- Must follow museum’s established policies and safety regulations.
CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Level 2 criminal background check clearance.
- Drug screening as part of the Drug Free Workplace Program.
- Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine(s) by date of hire to be considered for employment unless applicant is eligible for an exemption and able to provide supporting documentation for an accommodation under Title VII and/or ADA with the Human Resources Department.
SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to commit to between 8-10 hours a week for 10-12 weeks per semester (hours and weeks pending availability).
- Availability on some weekends and evenings may be requested.
